Making New York a SAFE Place for Survivors of Sexual Violence
Receiving trauma-informed care after an assault can be a powerful step in the healing process. Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs) ensure that survivors are treated with the dignity they deserve.
Due to a critical shortage of trained SAFEs, hospitals often struggle to provide these services and survivors often face long wait times and unnecessary transfers.
TeleSAFE is working to support hospitals and expand SAFE access across New York State.
TeleSAFE is an on-demand, comprehensive, compassionate, SAFE solution for hospitals with or without an existing program.

Services
Hospitals have on-demand, remote access to highly experienced SAFEs to support their exam needs, expediting and enhancing care for survivors. Our SAFEs can provide:
- Exam consults
- Complete exam management
- Nurse precepting
Learn about our
Examiners
Our SAFE team comprises seasoned professionals with an average of 15 years experience, ensuing the highest level of expertise and support. TeleSAFE Examiners are:
- Licensed NYS Registered Nurses or Nurse Practitioners
- NYSAFE and SANE-A certified
- Adult, adolescent, and pediatric trained
Serving New York State
Every hospital in New York is required to provide care to survivors of sexual assault in their emergency departments. All New York State hospitals (with or without existing programs) are eligible to receive TeleSAFE services at no cost.

Cost-effective
Patient transfers cost hospitals and patients money and time, and are disruptive to continuity of care. With TeleSAFE, there is no need to transfer due to lack of SAFE coverage. Through our preceptor program, we can help build your SANE team without the need to staff two nurses.
