Sunnyview Hospital Volunteers

Volunteering at Sunnyview

Volunteers are the hospital's best ambassadors! We believe that they play a role within the hospital that is absolutely priceless. Thanks to our volunteers, we are able to enhance the care we provide to our patients and their families.

As a Sunnyview volunteer, you'll have many opportunities to interact with clinical staff and patients. And, our specialized rehabilitation programs lead to challenging, patient-focused opportunities -- if that's what you want to do. If you prefer, you can choose a volunteer position in one of our support departments.

  • Volunteers serve the hospital seven days a week.
  • Volunteers offer support for the clinical staff, enhancing patient care.
  • Volunteers provide office support in administrative departments.
  • Placement depends on the individual's interests and skills, departmental needs and the hospital's needs.

The possibilities are virtually endless. Volunteers make a difference!

Who can volunteer?

Interested individuals can begin volunteering at age 16 with Sunnyview's Junior Volunteer Program. Students can work during school vacations and after school. Once a volunteer reaches the age of 18, he or she can progress into the Adult Volunteer Program. Adults of any age are invited to offer their time and talent to Sunnyview.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers can choose from a wide range of opportunities:

  • Information desk/reception desk -provide a smile and friendly welcome to patients and visitors
  • Patient request service - help make patients and their caregivers more comfortable by delivering the mail/newspapers, watering plants, reading a story, writing a letter, or helping complete the menu.
  • Transportation - help transport patients.
  • Clerical/office work - assist with office and computer work throughout the hospital.
  • Patient surveys - assist our clinicians in providing high quality care by tabulating patient surveys.
  • Service cart and gift shop - help patients and visitors with purchases.

What does Sunnyview look for in a volunteer?

Volunteers need to:

  • have a desire to work with people with disabilities
  • be committed and enthusiastic
  • have empathy, tact and initiative
  • be supportive, calm and respectful

What's in it for you?

That's easy to answer. As a Sunnyview volunteer, you'll enjoy:

  • free parking
  • the annual recognition dinner
  • a chance to participate in organized trips
  • and best of all, endless gratitude from patients, family, staff and administration.

Our volunteers agree, the first time a patient sends a smile your way to thank you for your kindness, you will know why being a Sunnyview volunteer is one of the most satisfying things you can do.
