It's Worth Making the Trip
Sunnyview is the only stand-alone hospital in the region devoted to helping people recover from traumatic injuries, illnesses, and major surgeries. Our acute level of hospital care means our patients receive more hours each week focusing on rehabilitation compared to other facilities such as nursing homes. Sunnyview is only a few hours from major cities in the northeast:
- Three hours from New York City
- Three hours from Boston
- Four and a half hours from Buffalo
For families traveling to Sunnyview, Jack's Place provides a comfortable, convenient, and free place to stay during treatment.

There's a big difference. We're a hospital specifically devoted to physical rehabilitation. We offer what's known as "acute" rehab—which is basically "hospital-level" rehab. That allows us to give patients a lot more hours of rehab during the week to help them recover quicker and return home sooner. Most other places offering inpatient rehab are nursing homes that provide "sub-acute" rehab, meaning fewer hours and less intense rehab. Depending If your insurance company approves your admission to Sunnyview, you should definitely choose Sunnyview.
Absolutely. We're the only hospital of its kind—dedicated solely to physical rehab—in all of upstate New York. In many cases, we represent a patient's best chance of getting back to living the life they previously led. We actually have patients at Sunnyview who also live outside of the Northeast. Over the years, we've rehabilitated patients from nearly every state.

We have a lot of special, state-of-the-art equipment here at Sunnyview, and our donations help us buy a lot of that equipment; everything from special wheelchairs to devices patients wear to help them walk. We also use donations to fund special programs and services, and for our James A. Eddy Memorial Foundation Research Institute, which does cutting-edge research in the field of rehabilitation medicine. Donate through the Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation.
We recognize how important it is for patients and loved ones to see each other and we believe family support is vital to a patient's recovery. However, at times we have to revert to a visitation policy that is more restrictive than we like due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns. Generally speaking, we are more restrictive when transmission rates in the community are trending higher. Here's our current visitation policy.
At Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, everyone is welcome and supported at all stages of their journey with us. We value people's differences and similarities and foster a culture of inclusiveness across all areas of our organization.
