2026 is already turning out to be a banner year for ticks.

Arthur Gran, M.D., of Troy Infectious Disease, a practice of St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates, shared insight into the current tick season during an interview with the Times Union.

Gran, who has been treating people with a range of severe tick-borne illnesses for more than a decade, said he has grown more careful about protecting against tick bites. After treating so many cases of tick-borne illnesses among “homebodies” and isolated people like those living in nursing homes, he has started preaching constant vigilance, regardless of how frequently a person exposes themselves to nature.

“If you live in this part of the country, you are at risk,” he said.
